Facebook has the largest catalog of image asset sizes of any social platform — profile, cover, post, event, group, ads, marketplace, and a dozen more variants. Most creators only know 2-3 of them. This guide documents every current Facebook image size; the free resizer below converts any photo to the right dimensions in one click. No signup, no watermark.
Facebook profile + cover photo sizes
**Profile photo** — **170×170 pixels** on desktop, **128×128** on smartphones. Upload at 320×320 or larger for retina sharpness. Displays as a circle.
**Cover photo** — **820×312 pixels** on desktop, **640×360** on mobile. Mobile crops the sides; design the center 640 px as the safe zone. Recommended upload size: 851×315 (the exact Facebook spec).
**Cover video** — 820×312, 20-90 seconds, MP4. Auto-plays muted; design for sound-off comprehension.
Facebook post image sizes
**Single image post** — **1200×630 pixels** (1.91:1) recommended for universal display. Works across desktop, mobile, and shared previews.
**Vertical image post** — 1080×1350 (4:5). Mobile-optimized — takes up more feed space.
**Square post** — 1080×1080 (1:1). Good for Instagram cross-posts.
**Multi-image post** (up to 10 images) — Facebook auto-arranges into a collage. Best with consistent aspect ratios across all images.
Facebook event + group sizes
**Event cover photo** — **1920×1080 pixels** (16:9). Displays at the top of the event page and in event invitations.
**Group cover photo** — **1640×924 pixels** (16:9). Spans the top of the group page on desktop; mobile crops to a wider band.
**Group icon** — **64×64 pixels** displayed; upload at 250×250 for sharpness.
Event and group covers heavily influence join rates. Strong covers — clear event title or group purpose — lift joins 30-50% over default Facebook stock images.
Facebook page + business sizes
**Page profile photo** — same as personal profile, 170×170.
**Page cover photo** — 820×312 desktop, 640×360 mobile. Critical: pages running ads from this cover need it to comply with Facebook's text-overlay rules (under 20% text in early ad iterations; rules changed in 2024 but text-heavy covers still underperform).
**Showcase / shop banner** — 1920×1005 px. Used at the top of a page's Shop or Showcase tab.
Facebook ad image sizes (Meta Ads Manager)
**Feed ad (single image)** — 1080×1080 (1:1) or 1080×1350 (4:5 vertical).
**Story ad** — 1080×1920 (9:16).
**Reels ad** — 1080×1920 (9:16).
**Right column ad** (desktop only) — 1200×628 (1.91:1).
**Marketplace ad** — 1080×1080 (1:1).
**Carousel ad** — 1080×1080, 2-10 slides, all same ratio.
**Collection ad** — 1080×1080 main + 4 product images.
**Video ad** — multiple ratios supported, with 1:1 and 4:5 highest-performing on Facebook feeds.
Meta auto-crops if you upload other dimensions but the result is unpredictable. Pre-sizing per placement reduces ad-review rejection and gives the cleanest creative.
Why Facebook image sizes matter more than they seem
Facebook's algorithm uses engagement rate as a top ranking signal. Wrong-sized images get less engagement because:
- Auto-cropped photos lose composition
- Compressed photos look unprofessional and depress click-through
- Mismatched aspect ratios trigger Facebook to display the post smaller in feed (especially horizontal posts on mobile)
Pre-sizing fixes all three. Two clicks with the resizer above gets you a clean, full-display post that the algorithm rewards.
